John's curious works don’t make for easy viewing because they run against the grain of things. Odd, Quirky, Ambiguous and Awkward are some of the descriptions that come too mind. In some respects his Art is reminiscent of the untutored spontaneity of ‘outsider’ art, but also owe much to Philip Guston. His pieces are less naïve than they may appear. John Albert is quite comfortable moving from different mediums in the traditional scene. Because he works intuitively and from the imagination the studio is his ideal work place. These works are humorous as well as having dark undertones, they are not usually seen in the art world of today.
