Heidi Locher is an architectural designer and artist living and working between London and Italy. Locher originally studied Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art before going on to the Royal College of Art in London, where she graduated as an architect. She became a partner at the award-winning firm, Paxton Locher Architects, whose practice was notable for its visionary approach and for the company’s unwillingness to compromise. Locher then began working independently as Studio Locher, which to this day characterises much of her own innovative practice. Locher has since designed some of the most recognised private houses in London for a distinguished list of clients, as well as public buildings such as the Soho Theatre on Greek Street and the Jerwood Space in Southwark.
Locher graduated with an MFA (with distinction) from Central Saint Martins in 2006. As an artist Locher has presented solo shows in London, New York, Paris, Austin and Rome. Her artistic practice involves the use of video projection, light installations and enlarged photographs. Visually intense, her works have an energy stemming from their interdisciplinarity that juxtapose architectural forms and frameworks with more fluid and transitory structures. Locher presents a solo show at Gallery 17, Mayfair in November 2016.
