American artist Steven Aishman is currently completing a PhD at the Royal College of Art and has received degrees in Astrophysics and Photography from Princeton and Tufts University respectively. He has taught cultural theory and photography extensively at institutions including Harvard, Massachusetts College of Art, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. He was previously Dean of Academics at Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia, US.
Aishman’s current practice explores contemporary visual language. He seeks to develop an aesthetic which evades categorisation or association through producing moments of surprise, which create space for the viewer to see objects and spaces anew. As both representation and evasion, his works reveal the distinction between sensory experiences and their communication through language. Aishman has exhibited internationally including at Pinnacle Gallery, Georgia, US; Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, Hong Kong; Atlanta Contemporary Art Centre, US; Georgia and Coronel Dorrego Cultural Center, Dorrego, AR.
