Nic Hamilton was born in Tasmania and now lives and works in Melbourne. He creates video and installation works that describe a vivid array of atmospheric and abstract environments. Constructed spaces, decay, familiar yet strange forms, and elastic time and scale are common themes in his work.
Nics practice floats in the space self determined and commercial art practice utilising technology and methods from his background in architecture and animation, applying these in often aberrant ways. The resultant works are polished, yet also suggest a rough immediacy built up of layers of experimentation. Building on electronic music, Nic frequently collaborates with musicians to create vibrant synchronised musical and visual experiences, bridging the video-art/music-video divide.
Nic’s work has featured on Dazed and Confused, The Fader, Post Matter, The Creators Project, Rhizome and Channel 4 UK. Nic has exhibited work at Sawtooth Gallery Launceston, Gasworks Melbourne and The Sydney Contemporary Art Fair.
