From 8-11 March, TRANSFER Gallery’s TRANSFER Download came to NADA New York. The online exhibition opened with a launch event on 8 March at NADA, which takes place at Skylight in West Soho, and continued as an immersive 3 channel display controlled by tablet.
TRANSFER Download is a virtual exhibition format which showcases algorithmic, digital animation and online art practices. The ever-evolving format addresses themes also present in the artworks on display such as simulation, digital spatiality and representation. Works are presented within a shared hyperspace, creating a virtual salon-style exhibition or ‘download’, which has been developed by TRANSFER over the past two years.
The artists whose work featured in the NADA incarnation of TRANSFER Download include AES+F, Snow Yunxue Fu, Alex McLeod, Claudia Hart, Eva Papamargariti, and Nicolas Sassoon & Rick Silva among others. Collectively, their work critiqued commercially-used digital tools and their relationship to power and image making. They presented “simulations of the body, post-human forms, dystopian landscapes, speculative AI, and disorienting architectures. In this selection of works, perfection falls apart, and in this opening the artists propose new possibilities.
The TRANSFER Download format will undergo significant changes in 2018; it will be adapted to better support the display of moving image, 360° and immersive works.
