«I see things » - Stéphane Hervé
Stéphane Hervé was born in a small coastal town in Bretagne, France, a setting of sailors, gangsters, and his first artistic influences from second-hand books and records. A restless creative from the start, he formed his first hard rock band at 15 and immersed himself in art, music, and culture, eventually landing in Paris as a studio assistant. There, he crossed paths with icons like Nick Cave, Barney Wilen, and Tony Coe, broadening his musical horizons from punk and metal to jazz and chanson.
In the 1990s, Stéphane co-founded R.A.G.E., a guerrilla rock magazine, which became a platform for him to connect with legends such as Chris Cornell, Lou Reed, and David Bowie while refining his skills as a photographer. Simultaneously, he pursued music projects, including the industrial band Prime Time Victim Show, and explored filmmaking, directing music videos and TV documentaries.
Relocating to Los Angeles at the turn of the millennium, Stéphane expanded his repertoire as a multimedia artist, shooting stars like U2 and Eminem and diving into the electroclash scene with his band Dead Sexy Inc. His fascination with subcultures led him to document fetish, goth, and S&M communities, as well as Japan’s Tokyo Decadance scene. His love for Japanese culture extended into animation projects, including Naruto.
After stints in Berlin and Japan, Stéphane returned to Paris in 2016, navigating personal and professional challenges before rediscovering his creative spark. His work now spans photography, documentaries, and music videos, with a forthcoming book chronicling his music years.
An enduring force in the art world, Stéphane Hervé continues to capture life’s raw beauty and complexity, fueled by an insatiable drive to create, explore, and share his vision.
