The 248th Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is now open at the Royal Academy of Arts in London’s Piccadilly. An institution since 1769, the exhibition each year brings together the work of artists at all stages of their careers, from hobbyists to internationally recognised professionals.
This year’s exhibition is curated by renowned sculptor Richard Wilson RA, who, along with a selection committee and hanging team, have had the task of displaying over 1000 works throughout the Royal Academy’s cavernous gallery spaces. Wilson has placed special curatorial focus on the work of influential artist duos, including Sedition artists Jane and Louise Wilson, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Tim Noble and Sue Webster.
As well as the work of inspiring duos, the exhibition also presents the work of a number of renowned artists whose works can be found as digital editions on Sedition. Two of these works are large scale installations which can be viewed from the outside of the building at Burlington Place. Ron Arad’s kinetic sculptural work Spyre can be seen in the Royal Academy courtyard for the duration of the exhibition, while RA Family Album 2016 by Yinka Shonibare, whose large scale installation can be seen wrapping the facade of the Royal Academy building.
Visitors to the exhibition can also see works by Idris Khan, Michael Craig-Martin, Bob and Roberta Smith, Tracey Emin, Rachel Howard, and Gordon Cheung. View photos of works from the Royal Academy on our blog.
The work of a number of Sedition artists who are also Royal Academicians can be purchased as gift cards from the Royal Academy gift shop and foyer. Visit the Royal Academy online shop to purchase works by Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, Ron Arad and others.
