Opening on 17 March, a group exhibition presented by Gazelli Art House takes over the flagship Hong Kong store of fashion brand JOYCE.
JOYCE is a pioneering fashion retail store which showcases the work of designers who transcend the boundaries of art and fashion. The Gazelli Art House takeover will transform the space with a series of pop-up exhibitions by an eclectic selection of artists represented by the gallery.
The exhibition includes the works by husband-and-wife Charlotte Colbert and Philip Colbert, who have individually launched digital editions on the Sedition platform to coincide with the event. Charlotte Colbert presents examples from several of her bodies of work: In & Out of Space, A Day At Home, Ordinary Madness and Studies, at JOYCE Cabinet. Philip Colbert showcases a series of paintings which playfully insert Mickey Mouse and Snoopy into everyday settings, prompting the viewer to consider the way branding and celebrity are woven into everyday life.
Also featured in the exhibition is James Ostrer, who for his project Wotsit All About photographed people smothered in junk food. Photographs from the series will be displayed at the Lower Ground Floor entrance and in lightboxes at JOYCE Harbour City and JOYCE Pacific Place. The final exhibited artist, Kalliopi Lemos, fills the entrance window of the store with a swarm of paper bees.
