Jitish Kallat presents a new solo exhibition at Galerie Templon in Paris. Phase Transition is the artist’s third solo show in the city.
The exhibition introduces a new series of paintings by Kallat which mark his return to the medium after five years working with drawing, sculpture, animation and photography. His Palindrome / Anagram Paintings continue his ongoing exploration of temporality and being, as well as extending his investigation into visual and structural language-making.
The paintings are accompanied by historic works by the artist. By displaying old and new works together, Phase Transition gives visibility to recurring and underpinning themes in Kallat’s work. Shown together, the works evidence the complex system of marks and meanings constructed over the years, raising questions about the links between the everyday and the cosmic.
Many of the pieces on display form dialogues with one another, and there are smaller waves of connections through the exhibition, links between themes, motifs, images and communicative systems. The title of the Palindrome / Anagram paintings is a reference to the fact that the works and their components can be read in many different ways depending on perspective and scale.
