Later in 2020Guli Silberstein will exhibit video work Matter and Light as part of the Electronic Language International Festival in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Made using a video glitch technique which paints in pixels over the screen, Matter and Light, which is available on Sedition, is a hybrid composition of images of seascapes, plants, humans and animals, flowing together propelled by dream-logic. The work is inspired by the painter Turner and by French Impressionism, and experiments with making video art that continues ideas developed in the field of painting; painterly traditions are applied to moving digital form to reflect on the current world. Silberstein’s visuals are accompanied by Wrapped In Rain, a piece of music by Jesús Lastra provided by Jamendo.

FILE Festival brings together the main trends, themes and practices driving the contemporary digital and electronic art worlds. The non-profit festival, which has taken place annually since 2000, puts particular emphasis on practitioners in Brazil and throughout South America. The events are organised into categories which reflect prominent lines of enquiry in the digital arts: Electronic Sonority (encompassing sound art, performance and installation, music including biologic music, poetry, music video and sound poetry), Interactive Art (including online, VR and AR projects, projections and installations, and tactile digital objects), and Digital Language (including digital video, games and design, software art and experimental interfaces, artificial intelligence and artificial life). Matter and Light will be part of the festival’s Videoart category which is part of the Digital Language strand.

SIlberstein’s work can be seen at SESI Art Gallery in Sao Paolo City, and also online as part of the festival’s online programme. Both online and offline events will launch on 30 June and will run until early August. His work has previously been shown at FILE in 2018 and 2019.
