The work Tunnel is a computer rendered animation by Snow Yunxue Fu which is part of Dreamspace, an online group exhibition curated by Sophie Kahn which brings together work by 13 artists working with 3D animation. Tunnel is inspired by Fu’s travel through a long and narrow tunnel with small but increasingly sized windows that look out onto the great landscape of the national park in Arizona.
The work engages in a Kantian quest to explore and define the nature of physical and metaphysical limits. The tunnel is a metaphor for the difficulty humans, with their limited means of perception and consciousness, have in capturing the experience of the sublime in transcending the limitations of awareness.
The work’s digital rendering adds dimensions to Fu’s quest: is the digital representation of nature evidence of the limited means of humans, or is it a gateway to other forms of consciousness?
