Folly is a 35 minute audiovisual longplay/mix album released by Overlap as part of a new long-term project. This work is the first of three planned releases from the project on Sedition.
Folly explores the idea of concurrence - of multiple melodic elements co-existing but discrete from one another, rather than deliberately pushing the polyphonic. The long format allows loops within loops to slowly repeat and develop. Audio and visual segues are as significant as the individual compositions and components.
The square ratio is a deliberate formatting decision intended to lean toward painting and away from TV: the blank spaces around the video work create a gallery wall effect, and relate to the idea of Folly as an audiovisual album which can be dipped in and out of visually over repeated listenings.
