On the 79th anniversary of the Great Depression, Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese melted down a 2,000 pound ice sculpture of the word "Economy" just footsteps from the New York Stock Exchange in front of the New York State Supreme Court at Foley Square. Main Street Meltdown is a time-lapse video of the 18 hour event.
Main Street Meltdown was the second of a series of temporary monuments that the artists have mounted. LigoranoReese have also melted down the words "Democracy" and "Middle Class" at the Republican and Democratic Conventions in 2008 and 2012.
