In Alien Sonata, a Sedition exclusive by Jonathan Monaghan, the viewer is immersed in a world where elaborate spaceships of flesh and baroque architecture majestically invade Earth. Monaghan's sleek and surreal CGI moving image artwork presents the vessels as multi-layered entities, referencing cultural artifacts ranging from the Palace of Versailles to ATM machines. The artist seamlessly weaves these references into a hypnotic sequence of borrowed imagery, creating a smooth, hyper-real, and futuristic creation. The organic yet suspect nature of the machines becomes the subject and object, the backdrop and protagonist of his visual exploration. Alien Sonata's fantastical visuals contemplate the uncertain relationship between nature and technology in a mesmerizing and otherworldly way.
Alien Sonata is related to a solo exhibition of the artist’s work, which took place in April 2014, in Washington, D.C.
