Accompanied by the tranquil sound of birdsong and the gentle rustle of trees, Imran Qureshi's Shadows introduces an interplay of light and dark that animates an otherwise empty space. Caressing the cream coloured doorway of the room, the external world imposes into the interior space as a overlay of thin shadows that reverberate around the room like a series of energetic brush strokes - marks that might well apply themselves more permanently to the walls over time. Qureshi's interest in juxtaposing interior with exterior is evident in many of his detailed miniature paintings that combine concise interiors with lush and lavish exteriors; public and private spaces that allow a furtive peek into one another’s lives.
