In the winter's pale is part of Uncouth Forest, a collection of eight new video pieces by Enzo Roff.
The collection explores what remains of Shakespeare’s beloved Forest of Arden. Originally covering most of North Warwickshire, Shakespeare as born and lived a short distance from the outskirts of the forest. He uses it in many of his works to depict intrigue, magic, mischief and illusion.
Enzo Roff returned to the forest throughout 2020 to capture the changing light and colours during the seasons and at different times of day. Roff degrades and rebuilds his images over and over to achieve an almost impressionistic painted appearance of blocks of colour with confident, sweeping brushstrokes.
As with all Roff’s work, every sequence loops seamlessly to create a constant, endless cycle.
