Doug Foster’s City of Water is a visual meditation on the unique juxtaposition of crumbling architecture and languid waterways that distinguish Venice from all other cities. The video artwork comprises forty-two painterly compositions that focus on that cinematic interplay of liquid and light, which can only be observed at times of the day when sunlit buildings are reflected in dark water. Wind, tides and the wakes of passing boats generate an infinite variety of intricate, undulating patterns that can beguile the keen-eyed observer.
