Machine Breathing is an artwork by Devan Marz launched as part of Verity, a curated program of 3D moving image artworks that reflect the current unsettling time which we are living in. The program features selected work by students who were taught by Professor Snow Yunxue in the Department of Photography and Imaging at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Artists explore the theme of realities and verity through the post-photographic lens of this infinitely capable medium by creating digital space alternatives, utilizing fluid simulation, bodily forms models, key-framed animation, and other 3D techniques. Drawing from theatrical, performative, cinematic, sculptural, and game practices, the works exhibited explore the strangeness and boundaries of reality.
"Machine Breathing a visual conversation examining contrast between organic and synthetic forms, and further a commentary on the increasingly large techno-industrial footprint humans have created and continue to build on, for better or for worse." - Devan Marz
