Blackwater

Spinland a series of video works by Darryl Rogers. Inspired by the question, "how can time be used as the essential medium in time-based media?", these works push the boundaries of video art by placing the time at the forefront. As paint is the essential medium for painting, time is the medium of video artwork yet it is often treated as a byproduct or merely a narrative element. Spinland invites us to explore time as the delineating component.

TS Eliot’s lines from his poem Burnt Norton (The Four Quartets) were an inspiration to Rogers.

At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
