Daydream II is a 2020 video artwork by Alvin Mak, launched as part of the Cognition collection. An abstract image is used to visualize the mindscape. 3D geometric data is used to warp and bend light. The ripple and flow result in the motion that presents the synthesis and the dissolution of elements. The artwork is an abstraction of the psychological void, between the conscious and sub-conscious. It explores the inner landscape of the mind. The process of imagination begins with the forming of coarse and incomplete fragments of ideas. The raw data is recognized by the conscious mind, and synthesized into complex ideas, or is left to dissipate into the void, to make room for the next thought. Viewers are invited to watch and join the meditative video. The moving organic and abstract forms aim to remove conscious thoughts and to encourage the mind to wander.
